I should have written this review years ago. Why? Because I’ve been using Sweet Pea one-size diaper covers for over 4 years and on 3 different babies. I’m going to share with you today why I like these cute, budget-friendly covers so much.
The covers I’m featuring in this review are from my own collection – Chevron and Raccoon:
Basic features of the Sweet Pea diaper cover include:
- Waterproof PUL exterior and wipe-clean interior
- Double gussets around the legs
- Two snaps at the waist, plus two more (optional) hip snaps
- Crossover snaps at the waist, for a snug fit on skinnier babies
- A fabric loop on the back for hang drying
- Adjustable snapping rise fits babies from 10 to 38 pounds
- Retails for $11.95
You’ll notice the size range starts at 10 pounds. This is very accurate, because even though there are crossover snaps at the waist, I was never able to use our Sweet Pea covers in the newborn phase and had to start at 10 to 12 pounds. Fortunately, they DO have a newborn cover now and it’s one of my favorites. You can see pictures and feedback on the Sweet Pea newborn cover here.
Opened up, you can see that the Sweet Pea cover is very basic but functional. It has a wipeable interior and inner gussets around the legs for extra leak and blowout protection. The wings are very stretchy and fasten with double snaps. There are two more snaps on the waistband which you can fasten to keep the diaper from sagging. I’ve found that fastening just ONE of those hip snaps is sufficient.
The Sweet Pea cover does not have flaps inside to hold inserts in place, but it functions fine without this feature. I often use our Sweet Peas with fitted diapers because of the generous cut of the cover. It’s also a great cover to use overnight for the same reason; you can really fit a lot in there (doubled up prefolds, fitted with a booster, flats with a booster, etc.).
At 7 months and 14 pounds, Ingrid is wearing this cover on both the smallest rise setting and the small waist setting. This is just another illustration of how this “one size” cover really does fit best on older babies and toddlers.
As far as body types go, I would also say Sweet Peas are ideal for chunky babies, although they certainly do fine on skinny little ones, too.
Here’s a picture from this summer which shows the fit on a toddler. You can see how the cover stays up a bit better on Susanna (who has chubbier legs and wider hips) than it does on Erik (who has thin legs).

These are my favorite covers! I’ve only had the version from before the redesign, but it was the first cover that fit when baby outgrew newborn covers and the other OS covers were still too big. I loved the fit on all my skinny kids. 🙂

We used sized cloth diaps on our first child. Thinking about getting a few one sized to have on hand. Any words of wisdom?
Chelsea, there are only a few brands of one size diapers that worked well on our newborns – Buttons, Best Bottoms and Funky Fluff come to mind. My favorite sized covers are still the Sweet Pea and Swaddlebees. ~Anne
i just heard about these coves and really want to try them. Wish there we some more patterns to choose from but i do love the Paisley.

Great review! Thanks for addressing the fact that you only have to use one set of snaps on each side. I thought four snaps on each side was a bit excessive, especially for a wiggly baby! I really like that these are cut generously because I sometimes struggle to find a cover big enough to fit over our huge nighttime fitteds. 🙂

I won a Sweet Pea newborn cover, and loved it! It was so tiny! I think i would like Sweet Pea because it fits a lot on the inside.. double prefold? wow! I also like ll the snaps options! It allows for you to get a good fit on your baby. I really like the red cover! It’s so vibrant!

I have the chevron cover already! I’m using prefolds, and am especially loving it now that my boy is bigger (close to 20 pounds). It worked fine before, I just found the diaper sagged a bit and therefore shifted a bit too much.
