Here’s a list of my favorite cloth diaper inserts (aka “doublers”) and where to get good deals on them. I love inserts because they can boost the absorbency of your chosen diapering system, but without spending a lot of etra money. They help you get more “mileage” out of the diapers you already own. And there are so many choices of fabrics and styles.
#1 Thirsties Small Organic Cotton Doublers

If you have a small baby, or need to add just a little bit of absorbency without too much bulk, then Thirsties cotton doublers are a great deal for just $8.75 with free shipping. You get a pack of three, and each insert is 3 layers of certified organic cotton with 1 layer of fleece on the top to wick moisture away and keep your baby’s skin dry.
#2 Charlie Banana Hemp Inserts

Hemp is like the nuclear weapon of cloth diapering fabrics; it’s dense and highly absorbent. I like Charlie Banana’s design because it adds a little bit of cotton to the blend; this keeps the fabric from being too rough (a downside of hemp). These inserts are medium/large so they work just fine for older babies and toddlers.
You can get a pack of three for about $12 with free Prime shipping and that’s a fantastic deal for natural diaper inserts!
#3 Geffen Baby Absorbers
Geffen Baby’s made-in-the-USA super absorbent inserts are fast becoming a popular option. With different levels available (Newborn, Quick, High, Super and Ultra), you can find just the right absorbency for your baby’s needs. Made to be compatible with most any diapering system, Geffen Absorbers start at just $11 for a 3-pack, and are made with a thirsty blend of 60% hemp and 40% smooth cotton jersey. You can find them directly at Geffen, or at many cloth retailers online like Nicki’s and Dearest Diapers.
#4 Best Bottom Inserts

Best Bottom inserts were designed to attach to Best Bottom covers, so they all have snaps on the back, however I have used them for years with a lot of other brands as well (note: the snaps are compatible with brands like Imagine, Buttons and Lalabye Baby covers, too!). For example, you can put a Best Bottom insert on top of your baby’s prefold for a big boost of absorbency for nap time or overnight.
The really great thing about Best Bottom is CHOICE. The size and fabric selection is huge, so you can truly find the perfect insert for your needs. Cotton, bamboo, hemp, stay dry – it’s all there! Shop Best Bottom inserts with free shipping at Nicki’s Diapers.
#5 Nicki’s Overnight Training Pants Insert
I was so pleased when Nicki’s introduced the Overnight Training Pants Insert to their lineup! It’s hard to find affordable, reusable training pants that are absorbent enough for night time.We were having to spend extra money each month on disposable pull-ups until these came along. We fold and stuff these 2-layer silky soft bamboo inserts into the pocket of Nicki’s training pants.
TIP: They also make perfect little newborn “prefolds!” And they are just $3.99 each.

#6 Nicki’s Bamboo Doubler

You can’t get any simpler than this. Nicki’s Bamboo Doubler is a rectangular pad of bamboo and cotton, serged together at the edges. It’s soft, old fashioned and very economical. Because of the natural fibers, you’ll need to prep (wash) a few times before use. The easiest way to do this is just add the new doublers into your next 2 or 3 loads of laundry. You can choose between size small or large.
#7 Osocozy Cotton Doublers

If you’re looking for the best deal in town, and want more than just a few doublers, definitely buy the cotton Osocozy Doublers, available from Nicki’s. It’s less than ten dollars and you get 12 inserts!
Each doubler is 4 x 14 inches and made of six layers of soft absorbent 100% cotton gauze. Add these to any diaper for extra absorbency or as a stain guard layer. Use with all brands/types of diapers in your collection.
#8 Wink Organic Inserts

Wink diaper inserts are very well made and last for SO long. I’ve used them for the newborn phase and beyond. Here are the fabric choices:
Microfiber is a synthetic “stay dry” material and the most economical. They measure approximately: 13.5×5″
Bamboo Terry contains ultra smooth fibers that inhibit bacterial growth. The four layers of fabric are hypoallergenic, breathable, and super absorbent. Approximately: 13.5×5″
Hemp is naturally antimicrobial. It is the thinnest but also most dense diaper material. It’s combined with 45% organic cotton for softness. These two fabrics will shrink more than the others after washing. Approximately 13.5×5″
DEALS: If you buy more than 6 Wink inserts, get $1.00 off each insert. And if you use my code ZEPHYR20 you get a 20% discount off your purchase!
