How Our Son Stopped Sucking His Thumb

September 4, 2013 by Anne Marie 24 Comments

Do you have a late thumb-sucker? Joseph is the oldest of our seven children. He began sucking his thumb at 4 months of age, and continued until he was 8 years old. That was a long enough time for us to actually consult an orthodontist because we noticed that his top front teeth were being pushed forward from the pressure of his thumb. We tried everything to break him of the habit. I Googled every trick in the book, but none of them worked for us. What many parents fail to realize is just how Continue Reading

Carson Dellosa Educational Games Review and Giveaway

August 30, 2013 by Anne Marie 23 Comments

My thanks to Carson Dellosa for sending us 3 games to review! A long time ago, my husband and I designated Thursdays for "game night," and it's something that we and our oldest children look forward to each week. We might just crack open a deck of cards for a couple of games of Battle; on other nights (when the baby is happy and the toddlers have fallen asleep early) it might be something more involved like Monopoly, Risk or Agricola. Carson Dellosa Publishing sent three educational games our Continue Reading

Don’t Let Fall and Winter Stop You from Gardening

August 10, 2013 by Anne Marie 15 Comments

We moved into our new house this spring, and because of all the hustle and bustle there was no time for a big family garden. All we were able to cultivate was a raised bed with a few tomatoes and some parsley. Both are growing well, and it's nice to have such a tiny little garden to tend to for a change, but then again - I do like to have more things to harvest at the end of summer. Who doesn't? But we'll have to wait until the next growing season for bright summer squash and zucchini, plump Continue Reading

How Do Fleece Diaper Covers Perform?

August 8, 2013 by Anne Marie 23 Comments

If you've seen fleece diaper covers in stores or shops and wondered how well they perform compared to the more popular PUL covers, read on! Fleece is a synthetic poly fabric that works by drawing moisture away from the skin (or from the diaper underneath it), through its fibers to the outer surface. It's often marketed as an easy-care alternative to wool. I used fleece wraps on Samuel when he was little because they fit great over his chunky tummy and legs. And when Erik was born last Continue Reading

I Breastfed 7 Children…and Lived to Tell About It

August 1, 2013 by Anne Marie 33 Comments

For me, breastfeeding has been quite a roller coaster ride. I've nursed all 7 of my children....but our experiences have been all over the map. I've endured all the troubles, and the triumphs, that nursing can bring along. Here's the full dossier: Joseph was my first baby. I read a lot about breastfeeding during pregnancy and was enthusiastic and (so I thought) well-educated. But the antibiotics I was given for my c-section led to a massive candida/yeast infection in my breasts and the Continue Reading
