How to Help a Young Child Write Numbers 1-10

October 28, 2013 by Anne Marie 5 Comments

Learning to count out loud isn't that difficult, but writing the numbers on paper can be a real challenge for small hands. Years ago, I found these helpful little teaching rhymes in an Amish workbook; children can say them out loud while drawing the numbers: 1 "A straight line down and then you’re done- this is how you make a one." 2 "Around and back on a railroad track: TWO TWO TWO!" 3 "Around a tree and around a tree – this is how you make a three." 4 "Down and over, down some Continue Reading

How to Easily Keep Track of Medication Doses

October 17, 2013 by Anne Marie 8 Comments

If someone in your family is taking medication that has been prescribed for the short term, like a 10-day antibiotic, here is an easy way to keep track of the doses given. It also helps you remember how many total doses are needed before you toss the bottle: Using a permanant marker, make columns on the bottle equivalent to the frequency of dosing. I'm an aunt again!! My "little" brother and his wonderful wife just welcomed a son last week, bringing the grandchild total up to 17! Before he arrived, we threw a baby shower for my sister-in-law and I thought it would be fun to share with you the games we played, plus a few of my favorites that we didn't have time for. They are all inexpensive, unique and very entertaining! Clothesline Challenge SUPPLIES: string, clothespins, laundry basket, diapers or other small linens, cordless phone, Continue Reading

The New and Improved Thirsties Duo Wrap

October 10, 2013 by Anne Marie 115 Comments

Thirsties fans have been waiting a long time for this news: the hook and loop closure on diapers, covers and fitteds is now wider, stronger and longer-lasting. You'll find the new hook and loop closure on their covers, fitteds and AIO diapers. Here's a quick photo comparison using my old (mango) Duo Wrap and an improved (aqua) Duo Wrap: One of the biggest problems encountered by Thirsties fans was the hook and loop closure snagging on other stuff in the laundry. Thirsties wanted to Continue Reading

Thirsties Duo Wrap Diaper Cover Review

October 9, 2013 by Anne Marie 45 Comments

One of the first brands I discovered when cloth diapering was Thirsties. It's consistently one of the most popular on the market and no wonder. After factoring in the reliable fit, premium features, and huge selection of colors and prints, you’ll still find Thirsties to be quite affordable. Plus, their diapers are manufactured in the USA. I loved the Thirsties Fab Fitteds on newborn Erik, but today my review focuses on the Duo Wraps. Although mine was a bit too bulky when Erik was firstborn, Continue Reading
