Lick the Platter Pot Roast

July 6, 2013 by Anne Marie 17 Comments

Spread it around!

There are some people who would trade their firstborn child, Rapunzel-style, just for the taste of mushrooms. I’m not one of those. So I never make a pot roast in the traditional “American” way which calls for cream of mushroom soup.

I opt instead for this savory and delicious version shared by my mother. And it’s just as easy! I serve this often for company and it’s a guaranteed pleaser every time.

LICK THE PLATTER POT ROAST

1 pkg. Good Seasons Italian dressing mix
1 pkg. McCormick brown gravy mix (I use a low-sodium variety)
1 pkg. dry ranch seasoning mix
1 cup water
1 beef roast

Lightly coat a skillet with cooking spray and heat to medium. Brown roast on all sides and then transfer to a slow cooker. Mix all three seasoning packs in a bowl with cold water. Pour over roast.

Cover and cook on low 6-8 hours or on high 3-4 hours.

If you like a very thick gravy, remove 1/2 cup of liquid from the pot near the end of cooking time. Add enough cornstarch to make a thick paste. Return to the pot and blend in.

Enjoy!

This sounds so easy and delicious! I wonder if my picky daughters would actually eat it.

Karine, the result is very tender and easy for children to eat. The sauce is very rich and thick, but not spicy or “exotic” which might turn some kids off. ~Anne

I’m afraid I’m one of the those who love mushrooms (although not to the extent I’d trade a child for some!)… I love to add mushrooms and radishes to our pot roast meals! Mmmm.

It’s ok, I forgive you! LOL But thankfully, this recipe is very versatile (like most crock pot roasts) and you can add what you want! ~Anne

This is floating around all over the net and my husband always yells that I ruin every pot roast but won’t let me try it! I think I’ll just slip it by him without him looking. I love the simplicity of this recipe!
