Backyard Chickens Gone Wild

August 28, 2012 by Anne Marie 12 Comments

A friend just dropped off a few Polish Crested hens at our farm the other day. Once you see a face like this, you never forget it! They suffer a bit for their beauty, though, because the colorful crest that adorns its head can limit its vision, resulting in an easily frightened little bird. If you are adding this variety to an existing flock, don't be surprised if they are dominated by your other birds. Historical records from the 1600's trace the Polish Crested to the Netherlands; you can Continue Reading

Swaddlebees Capri Diaper Cover and Insert Review and Giveaway

August 23, 2012 by Anne Marie 137 Comments

When Susanna was a young baby I had two cute little Swaddlebees ABC Wrap covers in size small that were definite favorites. I hated when they were tied up in the laundry and couldn't wait to get them back on her again. The fit and durability got 5 stars from me and ever since then I've been a big Swaddlebees fan. So I'm really thrilled to be reviewing the Capri diaper cover and insert for you thanks to the generous folks at Swaddlebees. We received a cover and Capri inserts: Both covers Continue Reading

Our First Day of Homeschooling – With Photos!

August 21, 2012 by Anne Marie 8 Comments

We started school a little early this year since our newborn is due right after Christmas break. Hopefully, by beginning in August we'll have a bit of a head start. Here's Joseph: Catherine: Benjamin: Thing One and Thing Two! Our day went *almost* like I had carefully planned.... We started at 9:15 instead of 9 o'clock sharp. Everyone's bed was made except Benjamin's (being just 4 he needs my help and I plum forgot). Most of the breakfast dishes got washed before school began Continue Reading

Home Schooling with Limited Space

August 20, 2012 by Anne Marie Leave a Comment

Last week I answered the question "How do you home school?" and shared with you our typical school day. Today, I thought you might like to see just where we home school. Like many families with limited space, the dining room table is our classroom. On the opposite wall, we hang artwork, graded papers and study helps like multiplication tables. Because this is our dining room, and because it also happens to flow into our kitchen, there's a microwave and food cabinet in our "school room!" The Continue Reading

Note: This review was updated in 2016 This post contains affiliate links. When Nicki (the owner of Nicki's Diapers) created Best Bottom Diapers, she strived to combine all the best features of different diapers into one great system. Best Bottoms are an All-in-Two system which fit from birth to 35+ pounds. They consist of reusable waterproof shells and coordinating inserts that snap inside. With 3 snap settings on the rise, you get 4 different sizes with Best Bottoms, which I would Continue Reading
