Lalabye Baby All-in-Two Review & Giveaway

Spread it around!

Lalabye Baby sells one-size pocket diapers with bamboo inserts, biodegradable liners, cotton terry wipes, wet bags, laundry care products and other cloth accessories. Melissa, the mother behind Lalabye Baby, kindly sent us the “Pat-a-Cake” diaper to review, which is white with teal snaps. All of her diapers have cute nursery rhyme themed names like “Twinkle Little Star” (yellow) and “Peter Pumpkin Eater” (orange).

When you open the diapers all the way up, there’s a surprise: a rainbow of colored snaps – so you can have something to look forward to as baby fattens up and grows! The colors also help you to quickly fasten the waist snaps by size. For example, you might use red for a big toddler and green for a larger baby. Tip: you can also steer your husband or your mother-in-law in the right direction by using the color code.

Here is the Lalabye diaper opened up. You can snap the bamboo inserts in, or just lay in the shell and tuck under the flap. There are two pocket openings on this diaper, if you prefer that style.

The pocket openings allow the inserts to slide out on their own in the washing machine. So you won’t have to reach in the pocket to pull out a wet or dirty pad. There’s also a waterproof PUL band on the top inside to further guard against leaks – especially when your child is on his/her tummy. When stuffing this diaper, I always use the front opening because the back one is very narrow.

With your diaper purchase you get two 4-layer bamboo inserts – one is newborn size and the other is standard size and they have a snap to fasten them in the shell; you can also snap the two inserts together before securing them in the shell if you want more absorbency. Bamboo is buttery soft and stays that way even after many washings. It’s also super trim and highly absorbent. On a scale of 1 to 5 for soaking power, I would give the Lalabye a 4 when using the two inserts together, so it’s definitely above average. I’ve also discovered with time that bamboo doesn’t hold on to odors like microfiber, although it does tend to stain more easily. There’s a trade-off with every diapering fabric. With Susanna and Samuel (ages 1 and 2) I use both bamboo inserts. For newborn Erik I used just the small to cut down on bulk.

Want to see the Lalabye pocket on some kiddos? Here is my tiny little guy first. Erik is 10 pounds and the Lalabye actually works on him, although there’s a lot of extra fabric which makes it bulky overall. Most one-size diapers start fitting best at 12-15 pounds or more.

Here’s how it fits on Susanna who is 18 months and about 25 pounds:

The fit is really sleek and trim:

Here’s my toddler, Samuel (almost 3 and weighing 35 pounds).

The price tag of $14.95 is great for a diaper that can function as either an All-in-Two or pocket, and has two inserts.

  1. I have never tried Bamboo before, but since you said it is buttery soft, now I want to try it and see what all the fuss is about!

  2. I’ve never heard of these diapers before, but they sound great! I love what you get for such a great price, and I love the rainbow snaps! Makes it easier for moms to change quickly too 🙂

  3. Is there anything you don’t like about this diaper? It seems so versatile and amazing! I can’t believe it’s such a good deal, too! I too love bamboo- mostly because of the softness and that it gives a trimmer fit, like you said. It makes a big difference when they’re small….

    1. Honestly, Ellen, I didn’t have any issues with our Lalabye pocket. Fit and absorbency are great, and I like the fun color choices (and cute names). I also like that it’s run by a cloth-diapering mom who’s trying to make income from home. I wish the price wasn’t going up on March 1, but even at $16.95 they are a good buy! Will I be buying more in the future? Absolutely! ~Anne

  4. I love how versatile these diapers are. Showing them on all three of your children real shows how awesomely versatile they really are!

  5. How did you find having to do the extra hip snap on your 18 mo old? My LO is about the same age and is WAY too squirmy to manage six snaps instead of four!

  6. It seems that these are good diapers. I think it is great to have the rainbow code to help people get the right snaps together.

  7. I really like the rainbow snaps! It makes it easy if you are sleep deprived to find the right snaps and when somebody else is changing them who is not familiar with how tight the diaper should be, you can just tell them the color! 🙂
… well, and they’re just plain fun … bummer though they’ll stay hidden almost until the littles have graduated to the potty!

  8. I have to say it’s really awesome that you have THREE diaper models to try these on lol! It’s so great that they fit all sizes so well. I have a 30+ lb toddler that is outgrowing a lot of “one-size” diapers so it’s great to see how they fit on someone his size. 🙂

  9. I like how you share so many close-up pictures of the diaper and its features — both on and off of your little one.

  10. This is a great price for a diaper with natural fibers. I’m still building my stash and wanting to try different types of diaper and this sounds like a great one to try out. Really like that the inserts can snap or just lay in.

  11. First of all, your kids are TOO cute! So adorable. Second, this review was really helpful! Seeing the different fits on different sizes was really helpful!

  12. I really like the option of having a white diaper with fun colored snaps. I also like that it can be used as a pocket or and AI2.

  13. I love the colored snaps, it takes the guess work out of snapping the diaper once you know what color your baby is at 🙂

    1. I wouldn’t think so, Janine. Most one-size diapers and covers go up to 35 to 40 pounds, and you can get prefolds and inserts in toddler sizes, too. But since potty training might be in the near future, I would definitely suggest looking for a few diapers that might double as trainers later on. Side snapping pocket diapers work well for this. There are also cloth trainers on the market like the Flips that are fantastic! ~Anne

  14. Love your review. It’s great that you showed two very different size babies wearing the same diaper. That helps a lot!

    1. I had no trouble at all with the snaps. They work very smoothly. Also, with the proper adjustments for each size, there’s no gaping at the leg openings for any of my little ones. Thanks for asking! ~Anne

  15. I love that they go from birth to potty training! Do you think they’d fit well on a newborn? My first was 7 pounds when she was born, and am looking for diapers for the next baby.
