The internet’s crammed full of noisy, knuckle-biting games that require hours of commitment and insane levels of coordination, but that’s not my cup of tea. I prefer to chill out with a logic puzzle or word game; it’s the perfect mix of relaxation and stimulation, using both the left and right side of my brain in a pleasant, low stress setting. There’s even research out there which suggests that cognitive games can slow or delay age-related cognitive decline.
My new favorite site for games like this is Solitaire.org.
They’ve got several different categories to choose from:

What really sold me right off was the simple clean interface of Solitaire.org. You can relax and enjoy your favorite mind games without loud distracting adds or long load times. Yes, THERE ARE NO ADS AND POP-UPS. That fact alone makes my blood pressure drop a few points!
And there are easy-to-follow rules for any new games you want to try but aren’t familiar with.
One of my favorites to play with the children is Hidden Pictures. Each backdrop is beautifully illustrated and you can listen to relaxing classical music as you search for hidden objects and numbers in the puzzle. Themes include gardens, pirates, castles, princesses and more.
There’s also a Scrabble-like game which challenges you to create words as letter tiles continuously fall onto the screen. Beat the clock and you advance to the next level; words that are longer earn you more points. It’s called Letter Scramble.
Today I tried Tetra Blocks, which is an easier to play version of the retro classic. The difficulty builds more slowly and the interface is sleek and easy on the eyes.
