A Quick Look at the Lighthouse Kids Switch AI2 System

Lighthouse Kids company started out in 2017 with a trim-fitting bamboo All-in-One Diaper, distinguished by founder Vanessa’s original, coastal-inspired watercolor designs, and featuring a foldable attached insert and a mesh inner lining. This diaper was an instant hit and the fan base remains strong, bolstered by a constant supply of imaginative print releases and new additions to the product lineup.

One of newest to debut is the Switch AI2 system: the duo includes a cover and snap-in pad. I bought one for Lydia (10 months old) and today I’ll give you the rundown of our experience.

Switch is a simple, straightforward system. It includes a cover and a “tongue-style” insert (that just means it’s extra long and foldable). Snap it into the cover and it’s ready to go on your baby.

The insert is bamboo on one side and fleece on the other. Flip according to your fabric preference.

So how does the Switch system compare to the original Lighthouse AIO diaper? For starters, it’s a bit roomier. However, it’s not quite as stretchy or soft. It has a little dip and a “pucker” in the middle of the waistband, like a Best Bottom or Buttons diaper cover.

Switch was a great name choice; it’s a versatile system. You can use it with the included insert, prefolds or flats. And yes, the snap receivers are compatible with other inserts, too – like Best Bottom or Buttons.

Absorbency is good with the Switch’s included insert, but not as quite as stellar as the AIO.

Wrapping it Up

I Like:
The trim fit, the versatility, and the artistic selection of prints and colors. It’s a really good value, too – you get the cover + the insert for around 20 bucks. If you’re not crazy about the insert, no big deal. Use the cover with prefolds, flats, etc.

I’d Change
The fabric…I just really like the Lighthouse AIO fabric better – it’s softer and the waist tabs are very pliable. I also don’t care for the “puckering” at the middle of waistband, the dipped shape, or the rounded, shorter wings.

So if I want to use Lighthouse diapers as covers, I will opt for the SWIM diaper. They are made of the classic stretchy fabric, have the cool mesh lining and work splendidly with my prefolds and flats. They aren’t puckered at the middle and use the classic Lighthouse tabs (stretchier and more square).
