My Diapers Take a Long Time to Dry!

February 5, 2013 by Anne Marie Leave a Comment

Do some of your diapers or inserts take a really long time to dry? Some of ours do, but they also happen to be favorites because of how absorbent they are. Some examples include our beautiful Geffen baby hemp prefold, Susanna’s Chunkabutt fitted (with 3 velour inserts inside) and the Thirsties hemp inserts that are my go-to nighttime doublers.

Cloth diapering can help save you money, so it pays to find ways to cut down on energy usage. Here are some tips for drying diapers that need a little extra time.

After washing and drying your stash, set aside those that are not quite dry yet. You can:

1.Add these diapers to another load of your family’s laundry once it’s ready for the dryer. Sheets, clothes, towels, whatever. It doesn’t matter. Once diapers are washed they can be dried with anything.

2. Finish drying them on a clothesline outside.

3. Finish drying them on a rack inside. If you don’t own or have room for a drying rack: hang the diapers on hooks, drape them over the shower curtain rod or a spare towel rod, or attach to clothes hangers with clothespins.

4. If you are really set on finishing them up in the dryer, use the “air fluff” setting rather than medium or high heat.

5. Consider adding wool dryer balls to cut down on drying time.

Happy diapering!
