Green Bean Bundles, a Favorite Side Dish

March 29, 2012 by Anne Marie 19 Comments

There are many variations of Green Bean Bundles floating out there on the internet, but my recipe is much more simple (only three ingredients!) and uses ingredients that you might already have on hand in your pantry. Let's hear it for cans! This savory and delicious favorite came to me from my wonderful mother-in-law. They're made with bacon, so Green Bean Bundles are actually a favorite side dish in my family any time of year, but we especially enjoy them at holiday dinners when a ham or Continue Reading

Why I Almost Gave Up on Cloth Diapers

March 29, 2012 by Anne Marie 38 Comments

I became interested in cloth diapers for one simple reason: to save money. Benjamin was our third child and money was getting tight. One day, while browsing through the ads in the back of my baby magazine, I saw an offer for a free fitted diaper. It was a no-strings-attached offer. If it didn't work, I could send it back. The idea of trying any free baby product seemed fun to me. Tea Time With My Children

March 22, 2012 by Anne Marie 3 Comments

Tea time is something we like to do at least a couple of times a week. And no, this is not Buckingham Palace! Sometimes "tea time" just means cookies and juice. But quite often, the children and I do brew a pot of tea and have something fresh-baked from the oven. The idea is just to get together for a little bit of refreshment and conversation before the hustle and bustle of dinner preparations and Daddy's return from work each evening. After winning a prize package from Mountain Rose Herbs, Continue Reading

I could never do that!

March 6, 2012 by Anne Marie 13 Comments

Quite often, when I tell someone that I have 5 children (update...now there are 6!), or that I home school, or that we raise and butcher our own meat, or that we cloth diaper, etc. etc. they will respond like this: "Oh, I could never do that!" Of course, this is not meant to be a criticism; they are just saying they think they can't do it for one reason or another. That response always brings to mind a saying I heard once from Dave Ramsey: "It doesn't matter if you think you can, or if you Continue Reading
