6 Ways to Earn Extra Cash as a Blogger

If you are a blogger and are looking for ways to make extra money, this post has some great ideas beyond the usual recommendations to place advertisements or do product reviews. Since you’ve developed a unique skill set and are going to be spending your time online anyway, why not put those assets to work for you outside blogging? Here are some examples:

Social Media Manager

To land this gig, you’ll need to be social media savvy and active on multiple channels. Pitch a business you already love; they will be more likely to hire someone who truly believes in the product. Negotiate your rate in cash or products based on time spent per week or per month. A good starting rate might be $20 or $30 per hour. Be prepared for a trial period; some businesses are interested in results before hiring a manager long-term. read more

4 Online Alternatives to Paypal

paypalThere are many online payment services besides Paypal, which is undoubtedly the largest and best-known. If you are looking for an alternative for whatever reason (avoiding fees, better service, ethics, etc.), this post is for you. The official answer is “all blogs are on the same multiuser blogging platform…that means a single bad script would bring down many blogs.” To put this into simpler terms, it’s for everyone’s security. read more

How to Name Your Pet, or Anything Else for that Matter

It seems like something around here always needs a name. A new kitten, a new stuffed animal, a new baby…… or maybe it’s work-related (a business, product, club or non-profit).

People often ask me for help in choosing a name for these types of things. In fact, out of all of my blog posts, the one with the most hits by far has been my entry from 2009 entitled How to Name Your Farm or Ranch. Apparently, it really struck a chord.

Anyway, just for a little bit of fun today, I want to introduce you to some of our pets, and how I happened upon their names. Hopefully, this will give you some ideas and inspiration for your own naming projects. read more

Step 1: Start with a Naming Brief

Before you can find a good name you’ll need to develop a road map for success. That’s what a naming brief is. A written document which defines your goals and objectives for the name. Without this guidance, you will be literally fumbling around in the dark for a great name. Be realistic and realize that it will take some research and strategy. This is how the “big guys” do it, and it works! A useful naming brief asks and answers such basic questions as: read more
