A New Plant-Based Protein Snack from Hormel

January 4, 2021 by Anne Marie 15 Comments

Spread it around!

Hormel has responded to a growing demand for plant-based foods by introducing in December Happy Little Plants protein puffs snacks. Developed to make plant-based protein portable and affordable, these puffs are perfect for school lunches, on-the-go snacking or an at-home option.

Getting enough protein in your diet can be costly and time-consuming. Hormel’s protein puffs are convenient and tasty, providing a satisfying low-carb option.

Each single-serve bag provides 16 grams of plant-based protein per serving, contain no preservatives, and is gluten-free. You can chose from among Ranch, Nacho Cheese, and Cinnamon & Sugar. We tried the latter and got good reviews from all of our children! Our son, Benjamin, was especially glad because he’s eating gluten-free right now and it can be hard to find quality protein sources for him beyond expensive meats and the same old dairy options day after day.

These puffs are the size of cereal bites and have a nice, pleasant crunch to them. If you’d like to try all three flavors and see which one is your family’s favorite, get the variety pack!

Allergen Information: Soy provides the main source of protein for Happy Little Plants puffs. Nacho and Ranch contain dairy, but Cinnamon & Sugar do not. There is a little bit of a veggie aftertaste which is very subtle, but not exactly unpleasant. I picked up on it and so did my son, but not our younger children.

Any improvements I would suggest? Less sodium! Here’s a sample label with full nutrition facts:

Have you tried Happy Little Plants yet? Which flavor sounds good to you?

Not something that I would expect from Hormel. They would make great snacks for my boys but not me as I am allergic to dairy and soy.

I have these and they are pretty good. I enjoyed the cinnamon & sugar ones the most. For being plant-based I thought they were good.

Healthy snacks really make a huge difference in our lives. I’d like to see the entire Ingredients list, especially how much fiber, if any, this snack has.
