You may remember my rave review from a few months back of the Baby Coon Designs hybrid fitted. This time around, I tested out Maria’s Monster Bunz pants which are designed to fit over cloth diapers. Starting at $21.00, Monster Bunz pants are available in size 3-12 months and 1-3 years, both of which have room to grow.
Maria made TWO pairs of pants – one for baby Ingrid and one for Erik – which was so incredibly nice! And I was thrilled with how the fabrics that I chose turned out. Ingrid’s pants are My Little Ponies with a pink waistband and cuffs and Erik’s are a knight and dragon with a dark orange waist and cuffs. Both are from the hard to find knits collection.
Monster Bunz pants are made of cotton/lycra or cotton print knit with a coordinating knit waistband. The circle of fabric on the bum is designed to stretch a bit and fit over cloth diapers. You can make circle stand out by requesting a coordinating color (as with Erik’s), or just have it cut from the same fabric as the pants (as with Ingrid’s).
Both the waist and the leg bands unroll, allowing the pants to grow with your child. It’s a cute, clever and very practical concept. I love the soft, knitted fabric and the non-binding waist and leg bands. They make perfect little nighttime bottoms because Ingrid and Erik usually have a well-stuffed diaper to sleep in.
You can see from the photos that these pants are not too tight around the waist and thighs. The fit is comfortable, but not at all baggy. The leg cuffs never come unrolled. On Ingrid, I like to roll the waistband up sometimes to cover her tummy a bit for extra warmth.
The only drawback to me in a pair of diaper is that the legs are slim-fitting, like leggings. My preference would be for a roomier cut overall, more like sweatpants.
The fabric washes up very well and continues to look great. Like everything else I’ve tried from Baby Coon, the workmanship is outstanding. If you are a fan of custom diapers, want LOTS of fabrics to choose from (including HTF and vintage/retro styles) and want to work with a talented, professional seamstress, I can recommend Maria at Baby Coon with no reservations. Did I also mention that she works super fast?
