Joe and Hope Chanda from Baby Babu diapers started their company to provide affordable diapering solutions for parents. They sent a complimentary Baby Babu diaper for us to try out. It’s a one-size pocket, similar to other imports on the market, and uses a snap-down rise to adjust and fit babies from approximately 8 to 35 pounds.
We received the Kiwi (green) diaper. It’s a bright, gender-neutral color. All Baby Babu diapers come with a 3-layer microfiber insert. There are two pocket openings (front and back) so you can stuff the pad into either end. The diaper is lined with white microfleece which helps your baby feel dry and quickly pulls wetness into the insert.
Baby Babu pockets have an extra channel or gusset sewn inside the lining of the diaper; this is supposed to help prevent leaks from blow-outs and from babies who like to wet their diaper all at once in a big flood.
Here’s a photo showing how trim this diaper is. We use it during the day, since the 1 included insert is not absorbent enough for overnight.

On the move!
We’ve had ample opportunity to use our Baby Babu diaper because it’s gender neutral, so both Susanna and Samuel can wear it. Plus, we do diaper laundry every 2 days so our Baby Babu has been through the cycle multiple times these past few weeks. The microfleece lining is easy to clean and the two pocket openings virtually eliminate the need for you to reach in and pull out dirty inserts. Both of these features really help me out on laundry day.
The pocket opening is large enough that you can also add a 2nd insert from your stash for more absorbency.
Here’s the Baby Babu on Samuel who is 2 years old, but smaller for his age at 27 pounds:
And yes, that’s Pixie….again. This cat keeps finding ways to get her face on the blog.
I think I like the fit on Samuel even better. Here’s a view from behind:
I would say the best things about Baby Babu are the trim fit, the soft leg and waist bands, the affordable price and the prompt response time from the company.
The main drawback is limited absorbency.
Another thing I wanted to mention; although the Babu Babu is described as a “one size” diaper which fits 8 to 35 pounds, you can see from the very first close-up photo that the rise is snapped to its smallest setting – and it’s on the high side. Susanna is 16 pounds so I can imagine that for younger/smaller babies, the Baby Babu might be much too big. But I know body type can affect the fit of a diaper greatly.
Each Baby Babu pocket diaper is reasonably priced and starts at $9.99. You can also purchase 4-layer bamboo inserts and pair with microfiber for night time. There are also cute Baby Babu diaper covers for $10.99 and wet bags in different colors and prints.
